Class Description
Class Objective: Perspective is the reason every culture in the world studies history. Understanding the cause and effect of events that created the world we live in is essential to success in the modern world. This class completes the journey, as we compare and contrast the last 70 years of western history. Students will become critical thinkers as it relates to the material. The classroom will be an active learning environment where students are actively engaged their own education. The class will include a good deal of homework and reading. This includes the Newbury Award winning novel, The Giver by Lois Lowery. It is essential that students keep up with the homework and complete the readings.
A. Grading:
- Tests: They will accompany every Chapter. Tests will account for 50% of the overall grade.
- Quizzes: A quiz can and will be given at any time, meaning that they may be announced or unannounced. They will generally be from 5-20 questions. Quizzes will account for 20% of the overall grade. Open note quizzes on homework readings will be given often.
- Homework & Class work: Note taking is mandatory homework. Most other homework and class work will be graded, but not all of it. Everything needs to be turned in on time to receive credit. Homework and class work will account for 20% of the overall grade.
- Participation: Includes speaking up in class, asking related questions, participating in discussions and group work, and turning in assignments. Failing to complete homework/class work will affect the participation grade, however; turning in all homework/class work on time will not help the participation grade because you are required to do so. Positive and negative classroom behavior will also influence the participation grade. Participation will account for 10% of the overall grade.
- Final grade in June: The final grade for this class is divided 6 ways: 20 % for each of the quarter grades, with 10% for the mid-term exam and 10% for the final exam.
