Human Geography

Class Description

 Class Objective:  Human Geography is the study of peoples and cultures from around the world.  It is a college-prep elective that prepares students for an ever increasing global society.  As technology and transportation bring the world closer together it is essential that 21st century students are familiar with the many different cultures that exist in the world today. Students will become critical thinkers as it relates to the material.  The classroom will be an active learning environment where students are actively engaged their own education.  The class will include a fair amount of homework and reading.  It is essential that students keep up with the homework and complete the readings. 

A.  Grading:

  1. Tests:  They will accompany every Chapter.  Tests will account for 50% of the overall grade.
  2. Homework & Class work:  Reading is mandatory homework.  Some other homework and class work will be graded, but not all of it.  Everything needs to be turned in on time to receive credit.  Homework and class work will account for 35% of the overall grade.
  3. Participation:  Includes speaking up in class, asking related questions, participating in discussions and group work, and turning in assignments.  Failing to complete homework/class work will affect the participation grade, however; turning in all homework/class work on time will not help the participation grade because you are required to do so.  Positive and negative classroom behavior will also influence the participation grade.  Participation will account for 15% of the overall grade.
  4. Final Semester Grade:  The final grade for this class is divided 3 ways: 40 % for both quarter grades, and 20% for the final exam.
